Archive rejuvenation

This blog had long been relegated to the category of missing and, perhaps, forgotten. After looking at the pictures, I decided it might be worth giving the whole thing a new look. With that in mind, here goes...

The warm water of Spider Lake is noted for its excellent canoeing, kayaking and swimming...

The provincial government website notes:

One of the best picnic sites in the area, Spider Lake features a small sandy beach perfect for water lovers of all ages on a hot summer day.
The warm water of Spider Lake is noted for its excellent canoeing, kayaking and swimming and the park is an idyllic spot for a quiet family outing. Paddlers can spend a peaceful afternoon exploring the shoreline and the many secluded bays of this lake, located west of Qualicum Beach on central Vancouver Island.
Spider Lake is stocked with small mouth bass and Rainbow trout, providing fishing opportunities year-round. Powerboats are prohibited but small car-top boats and canoes and kayaks can be launched from the beach next to the park’s small parking lot. Boats can also be launched from a steep banked causeway outside of the park.

The view across Spider Lake; our intrepid paddlers are coming into sight.

Barbie and Opa bring the kayak home; look at the coordinated strokes!

Barbie pulls up the rudder as Opa Big Al gets ready to get out of the kayak.

Barbie caught unawares... CLICK!

Who's next? An empty kayak is a crime...

Britta works the camera and is lucky to get Barbie to pose for a few seconds (that doesn't happen often!).

Lilo looks ready...

A weedy, shallow section around the point from our launch site...

Lieselotte seems to enjoy kayaking, and Spider Lake is a favorite of hers from a few years ago.

We've launched from the beach at Spider Lake Provincial Park and head in a counter-clockwise direction around the lake.

Several fishermen on pontoons ahead, trying their luck.

Trophy-size small mouth bass he says... OK, are fishermen known for factual portrayal of fact?

We're passing through the little gap...

heading back to the beach where we launched...

Just around this little island and we'll be heading back to the beach where we launched. Posted by Picasa

A quick paddle around pleasant Spider Lake (about 15km from Horne Lake and the Horne Lake caves).

Spider Lake on this warm August day was ideal for Barbie to take her first go a "being in charge" and taking control on the rudder in the aft cockpit, with Opa Bg Al paddling up front.
